Professional profile:

"I am a Director of Gabinet & Associates Inc., and a leading Calgary and Canadian expert in public participation and corporate communications. A founding member of the Wild Rose (Alberta) Chapter of the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2), the only organization internationally advocating for the effective, ethical practice of public/stakeholder participation. Currently I am also on the international board helping to grow the membership around the world.

How did I become so involved in this noble profession? Many an audience has heard me say what I believe to be very true: decisions are improved if the people that are affected by them are involved. I got involved in public participation in 1990 and went on to lead many of the City of Calgary's major public participation projects over the following 15 years. Creating a new way of engaging citizens by the City called Engage! is one of the legacies I left for the City when I created my own consulting company in 2005.

I've been fortunate to be the recipient of local, national and international awards mostly from professional associations and various levels of government. I apply my expertise across a broad range of sectors, including the oil and gas industry, non-proft organizations and municipal and provincial levels of government, where designing and facilitating multi-stakeholder processes are my bread and butter.

The "Associates" part of my company are, for me, knowledgeable and invigorating senior professionals in related disciplines, notably MAZE Consulting, a well-known Calgary company specializing in 'client-centred research' (what information and analysis does the client need to serve it's constituents better). Emerging from the participation/consultation process we develop depending on the client's need, is Outstanding Reporting, analysis and recommendations that drive outcomes, solutions, decisions in a clear, unambiguous, defensible direction.
